Network in Australia

Our vast network in the Australian Mining sector consists of five main pillars:

• Mining Companies: With Australia being home of some of the world’s biggest mining companies, there are also hundreds of small and medium sized miners. As the mining industry is undergoing a big transformation to a high tech industry, companies are in constant search for innovations.
• Mining Supplier Industry: Mining in Australia wouldn’t be possible without the local mining supplier industry, consisting of Australian companies as well as international companies with subsidiaries in Australia. Amongst many others, a considerable number of German mining suppliers is operating in Australia.
• Research Organisations: We are in close contact with several universities and other research organisations are leading the way to a sustainable, safe and productive future of mining. Additionally, we help creating connections with German research institution which may lead to bilateral research partnerships.
• Government: Australia’s federal government and most state governments run dedicated mining & resources departments – we have close ties with many of them. For example, the CCMR is involved in strategic talks with the Western Australian Department of Mines and Petroleum in relation to battery minerals.
• Industry Associations: A number of mining-orientated industry associations is active in the Australian resources industry, along with state based chambers of mines. The CCMR has established partnerships with several associations.

Network in Germany

Although the number of operating mines in Germany is decreasing, there are still a significant number of German mining suppliers active in the market. While many of those companies already successfully serve the global market, further strengthening their international activities is essential for future success. As the Australia offers a highly attractive mining market, the CCMR aims to be first contact point for the German mining supplier industry. Our network in Germany includes:

• Mining Suppliers: Traditionally active in the coal mining sector, the German mining supplier industry consists mostly of small and medium enterprises, most of whom are located in the historic German coal regions in North Rhine-Westphalia, Saarland, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Brandenburg.
• Research Organisations: In addition to the universities of Freiberg, Aachen and Clausthal that are traditionally active in mining and resources research, there are several other research institutions with activities in the mining sector.
• Government: The German Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) provides funding for the Competence Centre Mining & Resources and is an important partner in regards to resources questions. The CCMR supports the Ministry realizing the German Raw Materials strategy. Furthermore, The Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) along with the German Mineral Resources Agency (DERA), are essential partners for the CCMR’s work.
• Industry Associations: Several German associations support the German mining supplier industry, including VDMA, FAB and BDI, are partnering with CCMR
